Demonstration Schedule

·         Maker’s Market SAC Museum (Rhonda Griess) – July 20, 2019  The event went well.  It took place on the same day as the 50th anniversary of the moon landing so there were a lot of people at the SAC Museum.
·         Camp Creek (Jan Tooker) – July 20 -21, 2019      Saturday was very hot and the event was not very well attended. The heat seems often to be a factor at this event.  Attendees who stopped by showed a lot of interest in the guild. It rained Saturday night and Sunday and the grounds were so muddy that events for that day were cancelled.
·         Lancaster County Fair (Rhonda Griess) – August 4, 2019  Volunteers are scheduled for the day and will be demonstrating in the Lincoln Room.  Volunteers will be demonstrating on rigid heddle and table looms, and spinning.
·         Seward County Fair (Linda Carlson) – August 10, 2019   Volunteers will be demonstrating spinning and weaving.  Anyone who lives adjacent to Seward County, such as Lancaster County can enter an item in the Seward County fair.  To enter, items must be taken to the fair on August 6, 2019.  The fair awards premium money for winning items.
·         Arbor Lodge (Joan Johnson) – October 26, 2019   No report
·         Quilt Museum (Jan Tooker) – Nov. 22 & 23, 2019    The guild will be selling pieces at this event.  Additional volunteers are needed to sit at the guild’s table.  This is a fundraiser for the Quilt Museum.
·         Arbor Lodge Christmas at the Mansion (Diane Beckham) – December 7, 2019   No report
·         Prairie Hill School (Linda) – The guild received an invitation to demonstrate at a Prairie Hill School event on September 21 & 22, 2019.  However, because we set our demonstration schedule in January each year and we will be preparing for the guild’s open house and sale, we declined the invitation.

Old Business

·         Studio Improvements – storage, entryway, bathroom (Cheryl R., Jan T., John G) – John is planning to make tray table storage.  The type of storage needed in the bathroom will need some discussion and planning.  The linoleum in the entryway needs to be laid.
·         YouTube video (John G. and Rachel W) – John and Cheryl are going to make a video of warping onto a loom using the method that Cheryl learned during her visit to the Yarn Barn.
·         Weaving for the Guild Sale and Open House – Warp will be added to the AVL loom so that towels can be woven.  Other studio looms are tagged and have directions on them for weaving a variety of items (e.g. rag rugs, overshot, baby blankets).
·         Demonstrations at Sunday College View Farmer’s Market (Cheryl) – tabled until next year
·         Monastery (Cheryl) – Cheryl received an email from the nuns letting her know that they received their 2nd loom (which was donated).  The nuns also reported that they have finished their towels.  They plan to start warping for wimples.
·         Equipment Rental Proposal (Cheryl, John, Diane) – No report
·         The Honor plaque has not yet been shown to Russell.  A visit to him will be scheduled in the future.

New Business

·         The Woolery Guild Rewards (Jan T.) – Jan sent in the guild’s registration for the Woolery rebate program.  The Woolery sends a link which can go on the guild’s website. For the guild to get a rebate, the Woolery must be accessed through the link.  The Woolery will track sales and credit them to the guild. The guild will receive a check, if the guild earns at least a $100 rebate.

·         Excess Guild Equipment (Cheryl)

o   The guild has about 20 2-harness teaching looms.  However, some of them are not in good condition.  If we dispose of those looms that are in poor condition, we need to keep the working parts (reeds, heddles etc.)  In the future, the beginning weaving class will be taught on 4-harness table looms so we may not need the teaching looms.  However, we may want to see if we have success teaching on 4-harness table looms before we dispose of the 2-harness looms.
o   It would be helpful to track which looms are used and what their working order is.  The Equipment Committee will add this to their discussion.
o   The guild has a policy that allows any member to bring their personal looms to the guild.  We may want to re-visit this policy due to our storage limitations.

·         Schact Celebration – Schact is having a 50th anniversary celebration on September 20, 2019 in Boulder CO.  They will have tours, demonstration, and other events.  More information is on-line.

·         Cleaning for the Guild Open House & Sale (Kathy) –  Cleaning can begin soon for the Guild Open House and Sale.  Dusting looms can be done earlier than some of the other tasks. The cleaning check list will be posted on the bulletin board. All members are asked to help clean.  If you complete a task, check it off on the posted check list.

Items for follow-up at a later time

·         Emily S. traveled to Kyoto, Japan May 17 – 31, 2019.  Emily volunteered to present a program about her trip, probably sometime this winter.

·         At the September meeting, we will continue to discuss whether to sell, donate or otherwise dispose of excess guild equipment including some of the 2-harness teaching looms.  We will vote on this at the September meeting.
