Reports on Past and Upcoming Events/Classes/Workshops:
·
Weaving
Van Gogh’s Palette – The Lux Center for the Arts (Lux
Center) has agreed to provide the guild space for the Weaving Van Gogh’s
Palette show in September 2019. We will
hang the show in the community gallery which is on the 2nd
floor. The room has been fixed up and is
not being used as a classroom. We can
hang pieces the week of Labor Day. Methods
for hanging are the responsibility of the artist. After the show, guild members will be required
to fix any holes in the wall (the Lux Center will provide spackle). Guild
members will be allowed to sell pieces, but the pieces must stay hung
throughout the month. The Lux Center does
not charge a commission for sold items but will accept donations from the
seller. A donation is recommended for
higher priced sales. The Lux Center is not
responsible for loss or damage. The Lux
Center does limited promotion on Facebook and it holds a First Friday
event. Any extra promotion would be at
the guild’s cost. The guild would be
allowed to hold an event outside of the Lux Center’s regular hours for
$25/hour.
·
Beginning Weaving Class (Cheryl R. and
John G.) – The next class will begin in October
2019
·
Weaving 102 Class (Cheryl R. &
Jan T.) – Two students recently completed
the class. The next class will begin in
January 2020
·
Tapestry Class (Catherine E.) – Seven
students (probably) will be starting the class today. Classes will run 6 Saturdays. Pieces are to be off of the guild looms by May
1, 2019. If students pay studio use fees,
items can remain on looms longer.
·
Spinning (Victoria H. and
Jerry T.) – Students sign up for the spinning class through Southeast Community
College and Victoria does not find out the number of students registered until
just prior to the date the class is scheduled to begin. The maximum number of students is six. Class begins April 6, 2019 and will run six
weeks.
Victoria received some donated
fleece. She has plenty of material
(roving) for the class.
Jerry & Victoria have purchased
materials for and are assembling spindles and donating them to the guild. They may make additional spindles to be sold
at the guild sale.
Demonstration Schedule
·
10,000 Villages (Sue Ranta) – this
demonstration took place on March 9, 2019.
There was not a big crowd, probably due to rain. Some observers did express interest in
spinning and weaving.
·
Homestead Days (Linda Carlson) – June
22, 2019 Sue Ranta and
Diane Beckham have volunteered to demonstrate on Saturday, June 22, 2019. At this time only two people are signed up so

Weavers’ Conference.

No further action can be taken until we hear from him.

to the guild. We may also need to buy
some bigger tubs.

Rachel W.) – No report
·
Ideas Weaving for the Guild Sale and
Open House
– there will be no particular theme or focus.
We would like a variety of items.
We have a low inventory of rag rugs.
Towels seem to sell well. Other items
to consider are wall hangings and holiday door hangings.
·
Midwest Weavers’ Conference – The conference
will take place June 20-22, 2019 in Grinnell, IA.
·
Brochures – Brochures have
been stuffed with updated inserts. To
help advertise the Van Gogh show will make stickers announcing the date of the
show and stick those on the brochures.
·
Carmelite nuns (Cheryl) – the nuns
have finished their 1st four towels and the towels have been cut off
the loom. The nuns want to do 12 more
48” long towels. Cotton warp has been
ordered and Cheryl will continue to help them, as needed. They are enjoying weaving and hope to weave
fabric for their habits and cowls.
New Business
·
The
large loom with tied up pedals (currently located in the east room) will be
dismantled and disposed of.
·
A
proposal was made and adopted that we dispose of much of our supply of cotton

have 7 bins full that have not been used in a long time.
o
if
anyone wants any of the fabric strips, they must be picked up before May.
